 Adding Life to Your Space

When it comes to decking out your space in a lively fashion . . .

. . . investing in some plants can really go a long way.  Not only are plants and greens in the home aesthetically pleasing, but the positive effects on your health and overall well being is truly extraordinary.

How can plants improve your mood and overall feeling of well-being? Think back to 8th grade science, learning about photosynthesis, and how plants take in carbon dioxide and produce oxygen. Humans, on the other hand, take in oxygen and produce carbon dioxide — what a perfect match! Adding plants to interior spaces can increase oxygen levels, therefore, providing an easier setting to breathe.

According to NASA research, plants remove toxins from air – up to 87 percent of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every 24 hours. Plants reducing levels of certain pollutants, such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide, and especially VOCs like formaldehyde, common in most modern home builds or new construction. Another magical benefit to indoor plants (and probably my personal favorite) is the reduction of airborne dust levels. A study performed by Washington State University concluded that foliage plants can reduce indoor airborne dust levels by up to 20%, and this was concluded with plants that occupied 5% of the volume of the particular room. How amazing is that?
